Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Ortho/Spine/Bariatrics Unit. Sign-on bonuses of up to $20,000 for qualified night shift candidates and $15,000 for qualified day shift candidates are available.
About the Unit
1 East Surgery Unit is a 24-bed unit focusing on orthopedics, spine, and bariatrics. It provides short-stay care with an average stay of 1‑2 days. RNs work on a 1:5 or 1:6 patient‑to‑nurse ratio, with 6‑8 discharges per shift. The unit is supported by Patient Care Technicians, Unit Coordinators, and experienced preceptors, fostering a nurturing environment for skill development and growth. The unit is nationally recognized by the MBSAQIP accreditation.
Responsibilities
The RN is responsible for providing competent nursing care, applying the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, promotion of health, and evaluation). The RN must meet professional standards of ethics, cultural competence, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality improvement, resource utilization, and environmental health.
Education
Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
Students in the process of obtaining a degree in Registered Nursing
Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) or MSN (Preferred)
Certification & Licensure
Registered Nursing License (Required)
Students in progress of obtaining licensure
BLS required within 90 days of hire
Experience
1 year of acute care nursing experience preferred
No experience required
Previous healthcare experience in GI, Endoscopy, Surgical, step‑down, or pre/post care preferred
