Position Specifications

The Department of Aerospace Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for two full-time, non-tenure-line, professional track teaching faculty positions. The appointments will be at the faculty rank of

Assistant Teaching Professor . Successful candidates will teach in-person courses required in the undergraduate and graduate programs at the University Park campus, provide student academic advising, course and curricular design, and may support academic administration, during both the academic year and the summer. Candidates will also provide specific expertise to both the department’s academic programs and sponsored research in areas of particular need.
Employment Terms

This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding. Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in aerospace engineering, including specific subjects such as Space Systems (astronautics, orbital mechanics, space mission design and analysis, space system design) or Dynamics, Control and Vehicle Autonomy for aircraft and spacecraft, avionics, robotics, and advanced computing.
Provide student academic advising and mentorship to a diverse student population.
Participate in curriculum design and course development for the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
Support academic administration during the academic year and summer.
Conduct research in the designated areas of need within the department and support sponsored research projects.
Qualifications

Doctoral degree in aerospace engineering or a closely related field, obtained by date of appointment.
Demonstrated experience in research and instruction (both undergraduate and graduate) in the specified subject areas:

Space Systems

or

Dynamics, Control, and Vehicle Autonomy

(including avionics, robotics, and advanced computing).
Teaching excellence and enthusiasm for interacting with and mentoring a diverse student population.
Ability to contribute to all students’ sense of belonging.
