About The Unit
The Behavioral Health unit at RCH is a licensed 40 bed unit for Acute Behavioral Health Patients. We typically fill 32 of those beds on an average day. This unit serves adults across the lifespan with a variety of mental health disorders including: Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, and substance use disorders. We work with a multidisciplinary team to create treatment plans that address both acute and chronic mental health issues. Nurses on this unit work together as a team, facilitating groups, and helping patients achieve desired outcomes. Job Summary
The Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by:
Utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status
Implementing clinical nursing interventions
Having a highly diverse medical skillset
Developing and performing patient care plans to enhance outcomes
Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment
Essential Functions
Provide direct patient care according to the provider’s prescribed plan of care while closely monitoring progress and recovery
Assess and document the patient’s condition and report changes as needed
Administer medication, insulin, and IV/fluids, documenting thoroughly
Inspect and care for wounds, changing dressings, and assisting with personal hygiene
Apply effective interviewing skills to elicit information from patient and/or family/significant other needed for the treatment plan
Assess patient for injuries, infections, bedsore, etc., and deliver appropriate treatment
Collaborate with providers, aides, and allied health professionals to ensure exceptional outcomes
Other duties as assigned
Education
Graduate of an accredited Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
Certifications
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (required for Pediatric BH Units)
Experience
One (1) year of professional experience practicing as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Recent Behavioral Health experience (preferred, not required)
Training
EPIC Electronic Health Record training (preferred, not required)
De-Escalation Training (preferred, not required)
