The Black Horse Pike Regional School District anticipates an opening for a Student Mentor for the 2026-2027 school year.
Location: BHP District Office, Blackwood NJ 08012

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in education or a related field
Substitute certificate
Experience working with high school age youth
Coursework or formal training in counseling, preferred
Job Goals:
The primary role of the Student Mentor is to address at‑risk students and:
Increase their perception of personal capability
Develop skills of personal efficacy
Decrease the frequency and severity of student behaviors that are disruptive to academic progress
Foster connections within the school and the community at large
Performance Responsibilities
Meet with students individually and in groups to provide guidance, support and mentoring.
Present in Freshman seminar classes on selected topics in coordination with the teacher.
Serve as a role model for students.
Work with school staff in developing, implementing and evaluating parent and community involvement and community outreach activities.
Coordinate parent and community involvement activities and services with agencies and organizations.
Actively aid and support students during the transition to high school including new entrants who relocate to one of the district schools.
Identify when a student may be experiencing difficulties and develop a plan of support with the school counseling staff and other school support services.
Have a good knowledge and understanding of other school support services and refer students as appropriate onto further sources of help.
Help deliver awareness-raising events and activities on issues facing students.
Provide students with an opportunity to meet during their lunch period individually or in groups.
Assist students with job placement in the community.
Provide mediation to students who may be experiencing conflict.
Attend Back To School Night and at least two other evening events to promote the mentoring program.
Develop community partnerships and work with community leaders to provide opportunities for our students.
Continually consult with building administration regarding individual student needs and the needs of the school community.
Refer students to appropriate staff members for counseling when needed – MHAC, SAC, School counselor, CST.
Develop relationships with the sending schools to orchestrate activities to engage middle school students in the high school programs and to aid in the transition to high school.
Maintain logs and data supporting your efforts within the school community.
Attend team meetings, as requested.
All other duties as assigned by the school principal and/or district administration.
Salary commensurate with experience per the District Salary Guide – $26,320 – $40,346.
Per policy 4125, the district will give preference to qualified individuals who are residents of the Black Horse Pike Regional School District.
