Head Start Classroom Teacher
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Early Childhood Director and Early Education Coordinator/Manager, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Essential Functions
Develop and administer the Head Start curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Provide one-way instruction to Limited English Proficient 3-4 year old students.
Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, translating lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize instruction time.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
Continuously acquire professional knowledge and learn current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings or conducting research.
Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
Additional Duties
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current early childhood teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiation of instruction based upon student learning styles.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications Profile
TX State Certification as an Elementary Teacher: Core Subjects EC-6, Generalist EC-4 or EC-6, Elementary Comprehensive with PK-K endorsement.
Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education.
Experience
Successful prior teaching experience in a Head Start or Pre-K is a plus.
