Job Summary

The Prep Crew Laborer is responsible for preparing auto rack railcars for vehicle loading by setting chocks, adjusting, closing, and lubing railcar doors in compliance with Federal, industrial and company regulatory and safety standards. They help clean the facilities, railcars, and other areas on the property and may assist with minor railcar repairs. This Prep Crew Laborer description is general and illustrative of the type of duties required for this position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare multi-level auto rack railcars in accordance with Appendix B of Association of American Railroad and company standards
Demonstrate predictable, dependable, and timely attendance
Follow detailed written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule
Physically open and close doors of multi-level auto rack railcars
Inspect and lubricate railcar doors, pin assemblies, and door tracks
Use portable backpack blowers, vacuums, brooms, and power tools to clean debris from multi-level railcar decks
Inspect multi-level railcar racks for defects and debris
Repair minor railcar defects
Safely place vehicle wheel chocks and other securement devices
Remove snow and ice from railcar decks, walkways, and facilities
Keep accurate inventory of railcar repair parts
Perform general facility maintenance such as cleaning, sweeping, and taking out trash
Understand and apply company and railway safety compliance standards
Performs other duties as assigned or required
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Must be able to pass and obtain all reporting, testing, and certifications as required for this position.
Must have a valid driver’s license
Ability to operate a forklift preferred but not required
Education

Must be 18 years of age or older with High School or GED equivalent
