
B Lineman - Transmission

Position Summary
The Class B Lineman Transmission is a semi‑skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position works at various locations and may also require travel to another state depending on customer demands.
Essential Functions
Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de‑energized transmission work.
String overhead wire.
Set poles and anchors.
Troubleshoot problems on transmission systems.
Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
Perform all other related work as required to complete the job.
Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
Identify transmission primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
Be familiar with induced voltage.
Understand all concepts of grounding procedures.
Use phasing sticks properly.
Have knowledge of bare hand work 44 KV and 100 KV.
Know the requirements for proper line clearances.
Identify wire sizes.
Be proficient in Pole/Tower climbing.
Be proficient in all aspects of heavy lifting and rigging.
Possess a working knowledge of grounding techniques.
Operate a wire tensioner safely.
Change pole framing and insulators with line energized from hooks or bucket.
Operate sideloader, bucket and derrick proficiently.
Read and understand blueprints.
Set up equipment and grounding.
Work at heights and/or confined spaces.
Install and remove PPE and cover‑ups properly.
Check voltage on transformers.
Clip in transmission conductors.
Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) with the necessary tools.
Phase out a line using phasing sticks.
Obtain a one‑shot on a recloser.
Observe minimum approach distances.
Follow flag and tag procedures.
Perform basic bucket rescue/escape.
Conduct a pre‑job or tailgate briefing effectively.
Install and remove mechanical jumpers safely.
Inspect rubber goods, covers and PPE properly.
Work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
Minimum Requirements
3‑year minimum field experience.
Read and communicate effectively in English.
Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
Travel long distances on short notice, when required.
Work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
Lift in excess of 50 lbs.
Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly.
Work overtime when requested.
Glove and work high‑voltage transmission lines.
Work outside the normal schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to fingers and reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment
The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme conditions at construction job sites. Noise levels can be loud. This position is performed in outdoor weather conditions.
