Purpose
The mechanic/technician will be part of the Maintenance Crew that services our Marine Science Institute. The mechanic/technician will provide journey‑level skills to perform work in a variety of trades required for the maintenance, repair, and operation of University facilities and equipment. Responsible for the fabrication, installation, operation, and routine or emergency maintenance and/or repair of University facilities. Performs journey‑level work in a particular area of expertise assigned.
Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance on all air handlers, pumps, motors, eye wash stations, lighting, water filters and air filters
Operate all types of equipment needed for repair, installation or renovation of any project throughout all MSI buildings
Provide repair to mechanical systems including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, light electrical and carpentry throughout all MSI campuses
Assist with severe weather preparations and evacuation, rigging emergency power and emergency generator testing
Performs work in accordance with established safety procedures; maintains a clean and safe work environment
Responds to service calls, troubleshoots systems, equipment, valves, circuits, controls, panels and takes corrective action
Required Qualifications
High school Diploma
Building construction, mechanical or utilities trade specified; Journey‑level experience
Driving Required
This job requires a Class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Salary Range
$40,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
May be exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, high pressure and high‑speed equipment, confined spaces and/or outdoor work in inclement weather. Alertness and careful attention are required to avoid injury to self and others.
Work Shift
Monday - Friday 7 am-3:30 pm. Weekend or callouts may occur during emergency maintenance events.
