Qualifications

Experience with assembly of mechanical or electrical systems, or component‑level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.

Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, server hardware, or networking protocols.

Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) and to exert yourself physically over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting.

Must have ability to work non‑standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift‑based schedules.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Completion of the Google IT Support Professional Certificate program.

2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, server hardware or networking protocols.

Experience performing component‑level repairs and troubleshooting on IT equipment or a similar role.

Experience in a data center or network operation center environment.

Ability to collaborate with teams and adapt to change in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions.

Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose straightforward issues with equipment or infrastructure.

Maintain the security and integrity of data; track media to check for standard data security issues.

Disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end‑of‑life via part replacement or maintenance.

Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, and infrastructure based on identified issues.

About the Job
Google’s Hardware Operations team monitors state‑of‑the‑art physical infrastructure. As an Operations Technician, you’ll install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware (servers and components) and server software (Google’s Linux cluster). You will also configure complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols, and may lead project teams on larger installations. A typical day involves manual movement and installation of racks.

We expect you to be physically active and able to work in demanding environments, ensuring infrastructure stays at the cutting edge of technology.
