Qualifications:

College hours, high school diploma or GED (preferred)

Good medical health including the physical ability to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to assist in emergency evacuations

Ability to understand and respond to verbal and written instructions in English

Ability to work productively without continual supervision

Interest in and empathy for special needs children

Primary Purpose:

To provide care and custodianship to challenged children with diverse and special transportation needs during a split shift work day and ensuring that all drivers and attendants have been trained in the latest methods of challenged student transport.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare attendants and drivers with updated instruction yearly in the methods of securing students on a special needs bus to provide a safe, secure environment to or from school.

Re-train attendants as directed by the Driver manager to refresh their skills.

Report, in writing, any safety infractions to the Lead Driver, Driver Manager or as soon as possible.

Clean and keep in good repair all extra equipment for the students (car seats, safety vests/straps).

Keep the Driver Manager updated on equipment replacement needed during the current year.

Assist Lead Drivers in filling replacement equipment/supplies for each written request. Sign off and file the request in a monthly file.

Attend KISD Transportation in-service training classes annually prior to the official school start or as designated by the department.

Attend all in-services, bimonthly safety meetings and any other trainings as the district deems necessary.

Assist on routes as needed for absent attendants.

Read and follow established procedures and guidelines.

Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Wheelchair lifts, ramps, locks and special needs adaptive equipment.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, push and pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Work outside and inside; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.
