Compensation:
$45.00 - $50.00 Hourly
Position Overview
The Summer Camp Head Teacher is responsible for providing overall classroom management, scheduling activities in and outside the classroom, and designing lively summer camp experiences for campers within the class. The Head Teacher will supervise an Assistant Teacher, substitute teachers and possibly an intern, in accord with the Camp Coordinator. The Head Teacher is a warm and supportive resource for parents and colleagues.
Responsibilities
Provides a camp program that is active, fun, developmentally appropriate and responsive to children’s needs.
Maintains a pleasing, well organized classroom.
Creates and maintains smooth transitions between activities.
Is an effective team leader, demonstrating a willingness to assist and lead.
Provides a variety of creative opportunities, including music experience as well as activities that enrich the sense of a classroom community.
Displays student work to reflect themes or emergent interests of the classroom.
Provides for small group, large group, and individual activities.
Provides a balanced program of open learning and structured activities.
Supports all children with kindness, sensitivity and humor.
Professional Expectations
Arrives punctually; has classroom ready when campers arrive.
Alerts Coordinator in advance of any expected absence.
Accepts constructive criticism/direction and provides feedback to camp coordinator.
Actively participates in orientation and clean-up sessions.
Must attain all city and state training and educational requirements to meet the New York City Department of Health and Hygiene Head Teacher requirements.
Follows all policies and procedures as outlined in the New York City Department of Health Article 47, Third Street Faculty Handbook, and job description.
Understands role and responsibilities as a Mandated Reporter.
Is alert to all health and safety issues.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or otherwise meets study plan qualifications.
New York State Certified or actively pursuing certification.
Completes all training and certification demands required by New York City Department of Health and Hygiene.
Follows all applicable policies and procedures in Third Street employee handbooks and manuals, and is familiar and compliant with all applicable regulations.
Clearance of a background check.
