Job Summary
The Prep Cook is responsible for assisting the Chef and Assistant Cook by performing basic tasks including but not limited to assisting with everyday meal preparation, cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen storage areas, inventory control, and meeting DEC and USDA guidelines.

Essential Functions

Responsible for assisting with meal preparation and cleanliness to include salad bars, deserts, and main courses

Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep

Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking; setup workstations so that food can be prepared according to recipes

Performs as a team member within the kitchen, and when sharing workspace with the other staff

Refills the juice stations, make coffee/tea and fill condiments as needed

Assist Chef and Assistant Cook with cleaning the kitchen, wash dishes, sweep, mop, and remove garbage

Treats un'ina with respect and courtesy

Adheres to the Kenaitze Indian Tribes policies, procedures, and Tribal Court Codes to include but not limited to reporting in cases of suspected vulnerable adult, elder or child abuse or neglect and confidentiality

Qualifications
Education

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience

Minimum of 6 months experience in culinary field or food service industry

Experience working with the USDA, Child and Adult Food Program, or the National School Lunch Program

Preferred

Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities

License/Certification

Food Worker Card required within 30 days of hire

Current First Aid & CPR Certification, or obtain within 90 days of hire

Alaska Driver's License and remain insurable under the Tribe's policy

Special Skills

Ability to lift 50 lbs

Basic computer skills

Good oral and written communication skills with staff and un'ina

Strong customer service skills

Availability to work occasional nights and weekends

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
