Momentum’s Yoga Instructors are responsible for providing balanced and inviting yoga classes for all levels, catering to the specific needs of Momentum members and the climbing community. Yoga is a vital component of training and recovery for climbers and athletes, and the Yoga Instructor plays a critical role in supporting the overall wellness program at Momentum. The instructor fosters a welcoming, safe environment and is expected to support students in developing their physical and mental well‑being through yoga practice.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching
Teach a minimum of 1 yoga class per week and/or sub a minimum of 3 classes every quarter.
Organize substitute teachers for your class a minimum of two weeks in advance using the provided teacher sub list, working with the Yoga Manager when necessary to find last‑minute substitutes.
Sub additional classes when available.
Plan and lead yoga sessions that promote physical well‑being, mindfulness, and safe alignment for participants of all skill levels.
Offer modifications and adjustments for students with varying abilities or injuries.
Maintain knowledge of other Momentum teachers and their classes to provide informed recommendations to students and staff.
Teach a variety of classes, such as Vinyasa, Power, Hatha/Alignment, Restorative, Yin, or Meditation, as agreed upon with the Yoga Manager.
Customer Service and Facility Obligations
Organize and clean yoga props after each class, maintaining the standards set by the program manager.
Perform light cleaning of the studio, including sweeping floors when needed.
Communicate student and space needs to the Yoga Manager.
Answer student questions about classes, the benefits of yoga, and which classes might best suit their needs. Refer them to the yoga manager for any questions you can’t answer.
REQUIREMENTS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Hours and Availability
Must be available to teach at least one class per week and sub when necessary, including times outside of regularly scheduled classes.
Substitute yoga instructors must teach a minimum of 3 classes every quarter to remain active on the sub list.
Instructors are scheduled and approved to clock in 15 minutes before and out 15 minutes after class.
Communicate regularly with the Yoga Manager regarding availability changes and other scheduling needs.
Instructors have the option to teach during special events or workshops that are scheduled outside of regularly scheduled class times.
While this is a gym‑specific role, the instructor would be eligible to sub at other Momentum locations.
Experience, Skills, and Certifications
200‑hour minimum certificate from a Registered Yoga School (RYS) accredited by Yoga Alliance (RYT registry not required).
Climbing knowledge is preferred.
Ability to teach at multiple locations strongly preferred.
Pilates Instruction is a plus.
A strong understanding of anatomy and functional movement is preferred.
Additional certifications may be required for specific styles or topics being taught, as agreed with the yoga manager.
Passion for yoga and holistic wellness, and the ability to connect with diverse student populations.
Environmental and Physical Demands
Work in a loud and high-volume gym environment every shift.
Must be able to safely guide students through poses using healthy and safe alignment principles.
Ability to project voice and instruct up to 30 participants in a loud gym environment.
Ability to lead yoga poses and movements for the duration of the class (typically 60 minutes or more).
Ability to climb stairs to the studio space in some locations.
Must be able to lift and move yoga equipment (mats, blocks, straps, etc.) up to 25 lbs.
