Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Technician II continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.
Responsibilities
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper functioning.
Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives.
Independently manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation of company‑issued service truck equipment.
Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
Work with customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, and diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work according to company standards; upload pictures and details to Repair Orders (“RO”) using company‑issued iOS device.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
Maintain a high level of productivity within or close to Standard Repair Times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and retrieve purchase order numbers.
Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. Alternative qualifications may include a higher degree or qualification beyond a HS diploma/GED, or 5 years of experience in a related field.
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform job duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
Must successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
A current and valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
Must be at least 21 years old.
Valid state of residence driver’s license required; must hold and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Certifications
Required: ASE T8 (PMI) certification
Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain) certification
Preferred: ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
Preferred: ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
