Anticipated 2nd Shift Full-Time Custodian (8 hours)

Purpose
Maintain a clean and safe environment within educational facilities. Assist the Head Custodian with general cleaning and maintenance of the assigned facility.

Performance Responsibilities

Cleaning and sanitizing: classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, entryways, drinking fountains, gymnasium, cafeteria, kitchen, windows, and other common areas.

Trash removal: collecting and disposing of waste, emptying trash cans and recycling bins.

Restroom maintenance: cleaning fixtures, replenishing supplies, addressing issues promptly.

Floor care: maintaining carpets, tiles, hardwood; using mops, vacuums, floor buffers, and carpet cleaners.

Routine inspections: identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and cleanliness issues; report to authorities.

Security and safety: ensuring doors and windows are secured, reporting suspicious activity, assisting emergency procedures and drills.

Setting up for events: arranging furniture, ensuring space is clean and organized.

Grounds maintenance: sidewalk cleaning, snow removal, lawn maintenance, and basic landscaping.

Team collaboration: work with teachers, administrators, and other staff.

Adherence to policies: follow cleaning products protocols, safety procedures, and incident reporting requirements.

Flexible schedule: work evenings and weekends as needed.

Annual cleaning: coordinate deep cleaning as assigned.

Other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian, Principal, Assistant Principal, or Facilities Services Manager.

Qualifications
Training and Experience

High school graduation or equivalent.

Practical experience in custodial services desirable.

Familiarity with commercial sweepers, buffing machines, and other custodial equipment desirable.

Trained to direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic throughout the district.

General

Ability to work cooperatively with others.

Ability to deal effectively with students and staff.

Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently within the limits of responsibilities.

Physical requirements: lift and carry up to 40 pounds; walk and stand for extended periods.

Current, favorable clearances per Pennsylvania and federal requirements.

Work Schedule
2nd or 3rd shift. 8 hours per day, 12 months per year.
