Work closely with members of the department of Surgery to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified.## Education & ExperienceTwo (2) years' experience in hospital surgery department or surgery clinic. BSN preferred.
**CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:** Valid RN license, successful NSQIP SCR training/certification within ninety days of hire date.## Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of patent charts, medical terminology, and surgical procedures. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to read and interpret medical terminology.
**Responsibilities*** Identifies surgical patients for inclusion in the program through inclusion criteria and protocols; collects and reports data; identifies all metabolic and bariatric surgery patients for inclusion in the MBSAQIP data registry; collects preoperative, interoperative, 30-day postoperative, and long-term (6 month and annual thereafter) follow-up data components for the program; identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process and enters data into database.* Collects preoperative, operative, and postoperative data components for the program through the efficient utilization of the hospital medical record systems; works effectively with all appropriate hospital and medical center staff and surgeon office staff necessary for the management and success of the program; serves as an educational resource on the MBSAQIP data registry platform for internal and external audiences by developing educational material and delivering presentations.* Attends weekly morbidity and mortality conference to ensure reliable data collection of postoperative occurrences.* Demonstrates applicability of the methodology and the reliability of definitions utilized by reviewers within the program through inter-rater reliability testing.* Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection program process.* Maintains knowledge of medical terminology and documentation trends. Responds to internal and external inquiries.
Tracks patients and collects follow-up data as appropriate.* Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the program.* Utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis.
