Position Overview
S:US’ Development and External Affairs team works collaboratively with Board members, executive leadership, program, and finance staff to build internal and external relationships, raise funds, and increase the organization’s visibility. The team includes staff members working in the areas of fundraising, marketing and communications, and volunteer management.
Reporting to the Director of Volunteer & Community Relations, the Volunteer Coordinator will be working to increase the number of opportunities for a wide range of community members to build a relationship with and support S:US and the people S:US serves. The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with Development and Communications & Marketing teams to further the goal of increasing and/or strengthening the relationship of supporters and stakeholders.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Volunteer Management
Identify and develop potential volunteer opportunities with program staff.
Recruit for volunteers (individuals and teams) to fulfill the needs of S:US’ programs and departments.
Screen, place, and orient volunteers for their assignments at programs.
Facilitate team volunteer activities.
Maintain records of volunteers’ hours and impact on programs.
Evaluate and recognize volunteers.
Maintain and update, as needed, policies and procedures for volunteers.
In-Kind Support
Assist in the execution of the Holiday Gift Project. Collect holiday gift wishes from programs with priority given to programs that serve individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and children. Recruit donors to fulfill individualized holiday gift wishes. Package holiday gifts for distribution.
Solicit in-kind donations based upon programs’ needs, such as food and winter coats. Arrange for pick up or delivery of items to programs.
Manage the unsolicited in-kind donor requests. Decide if the donations are desired by the programs and arrange for delivery of donated items.
Administration
Work with the Development and External Affairs Coordinator to track all engagement with volunteers and in-kind donors in Raiser’s Edge and to prepare reports, dashboards, and other analysis as needed.
Manage and maintain department files to ensure accessibility and accuracy of recordkeeping.
Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Work experience relevant to volunteer coordination
Independent and organized work skills with strong verbal communication and writing skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with diverse staff, people served, and volunteers
Strong project management and problem‑solving skills
Ability to prioritize and successfully manage several projects and navigate changing priorities
Highly detail‑oriented and able to accurately process and analyze data
Ability to work as an effective team member in a complex and fast‑paced environment
Willingness to travel throughout New York City and Long Island
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate Degree
Experience with building and maintaining donor and community relationships
Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
