Responsibilities
The Shop Diesel Mechanic/Technician is responsible for performing mechanical repairs in a timely and professional manner.

Essential Job Duties/Functions:

Performs all preventive maintenance services, tire services, and emergency road service calls.

Conducts DOT inspections and ensures compliance with all applicable regulations.

Performs service calls, including night and on‑call assignments as required.

Utilizes diagnostic platforms including J-Pro, FleetCross, and OE software to diagnose and repair vehicle systems.

Completes work orders accurately, documenting labor performed, parts used, and required warranty information.

Performs intermediate to advanced engine repairs, including diagnostics, cooling system components, fuel system components, turbos, oil systems, and related accessories.

Performs emissions system diagnostics and repairs, including DPF, EGR, sensors, and regeneration procedures.

Performs intermediate to advanced drivetrain repairs, including clutches, differentials, PTOs, axle assemblies, transmissions, and driveline components.

Performs wheel‑end repairs, including bearings, seals, hubs, and spindle evaluation.

Conducts air system and air brake diagnostics and repairs, including ABS systems, compressors, valves, and sensors.

Performs advanced steering and suspension repairs, including gear boxes, kingpins, springs, shackles, hangers, tie rods, torsion arms, and fifth wheels.

Performs electrical system diagnostics and repairs, including voltage drop testing, parasitic draw testing, starters, alternators, and engine‑related sensors.

Performs HVAC diagnostics and repairs, including recovery, evacuation, recharge, compressors, driers, expansion devices, evaporators, condensers, and HVAC controls.

Maintains cleanliness and organization of the shop, tools, and equipment.

Ensures all tools, jacks, and service vehicles are maintained in safe working condition.

Stays current with LMS training requirements and complete OSHA Skills Demonstrations as required.

Provides friendly, professional, and competent customer service at all times.

Adheres to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.

Additional Job Duties:

Assists in other duties, as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, advanced‑level technicians may serve as technical mentors and subject matter experts for shop personnel.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience (include certs or licenses needed):

Ability to complete TIA tire training.

Air Brake Certification required.

DOT Medical Card required.

ASE certifications preferred; Shop Technician IV must obtain or maintain the following (or equivalent) within one year of promotion:

T2: Diesel Engines

T4: Brakes

T5: Suspension & Steering

T6: Electrical/Electronic Systems

T7: Heating, Ventilation & A/C

Section 609 HVAC certification required for HVAC service.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

Ability to attend and successfully complete HVAC, Electrical, and DOT training.

Ability to obtain required ASE, DOT, and other certifications.

Ability to work weekends, holidays, nights, and on‑call schedules as needed.

Reliable transportation and phone.

Ability to communicate effectively in English (as applicable).

Ability to work cooperatively with team members and deliver excellent customer service.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Shop Technician III and IV to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
