Job Description
Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor.
Department: Youth Activities.
Reports To: Director of Member Experience.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt.
Position Objective
Counselors play a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment for campers while leading activities, building relationships, and ensuring a memorable summer experience for all participants. Responsibilities also include setup, cleanup, and ensuring the safe, friendly care of younger members all while being energetic, responsible, and enthusiastic individuals.
Position Functions and Duties
Greet members and guests in a professional and friendly manner.
Respond to member questions with accurate and courteous communication.
Assist with setup, decorations, and safety checks prior to camp.
Host and engage children in various activities, including pool games and all other miscellaneous activities.
Assist parents with the sign-in/out process, including ID checks.
Follow and enforce all Club policies to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
Maintain knowledge of children’s allergies and special needs.
Supervise children and exercise good judgment while in care.
Assist with children’s meal service.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and report any issues or concerns.
Maintain cleanliness and secure locking of the children’s playroom.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Education / Experience / Skills
High school diploma or equivalent required.
CPR and First Aid certification required.
Proficient in Outlook, internet applications, and general office equipment.
Familiar with age-appropriate activities and enjoys working with youth.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills-both verbal and written.
Able to project voice and gain the attention and cooperation of children.
Understand and respond effectively in emergency situations.
Must be organized, safety-conscious, and professional.
Capable of working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
A team player who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Physical and Mental Demands
Must safely lift up to 30 pounds.
Continuous standing and walking required.
Frequent lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, and repetitive motion.
Ability to reach, bend, and stoop throughout shift.
Must remain standing for extended periods.
Capable of conveying ideas clearly and making quick decisions.
Ability to remain calm and objective under pressure.
Strong listening and problem-solving abilities when interacting with members, guests, and teammates.
Typical Working Conditions
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. The setting may be busy and noisy, with exposure to variable weather conditions such as heat, humidity, or cold. Schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on Club needs.
