Job Description
Purpose:
To assist the teacher in organizing and implementing the instructional program and to provide support for clerical, technical, and monitoring functions.
Nature of Work:
Provides support to the teacher in the instruction of students, performing a wide variety of tasks directed by specific instructions and established policy, solving problems with limited supervision.
Major Functions:
Planning/Organizing the instructional program: aids the teacher with organizing instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, and preparing necessary materials.
Implementing the instructional program: maintains awareness of goals and assists in evaluating outcomes.
Clerical/Technical: demonstrates clerical and technical skills to assist with program implementation.
Professional Behavior: involved in the total school program and maintains positive behavior toward students, parents, administration, and staff.
Public Relations: acts as a positive role model, communicates student needs, and facilitates program accomplishment.
Monitorial: assists in enforcing school policy and carries out supervisory duties to ensure a safe environment.
Housekeeping: helps develop housekeeping procedures and shares responsibility for classroom and school cleanliness.
Other Duties: performs any other duties as prescribed by the LEA or school.
Illustrative Examples of Work:
Instructional Assistance: gives group instruction as prescribed, provides individualized instruction, demonstrates activities, monitors work, corrects student work, keeps students on task, praises students, reports progress, assists with math/reading programs, serves as substitute teacher, scores papers.
Clerical/Technical Assistance: prepares visual aids, duplicates materials, reorganizes materials daily, distributes and collects materials, files data, prepares bulletin boards.
General Classroom Assistance: attends workshops, proctors testing, monitors behavior in playground, cafeteria, hallway, restroom, classroom, arranges furnishings, records behavior, drives bus as needed, supervises students during field trips.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to use classroom equipment and tools; lift, carry, push, pull objects with negligible force; consistent with Light Work due to time spent standing and walking.
Job Requirements
Associate degree preferred.
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Associate degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited college or university.
Reports to Principal and Teacher.
