
Milk Bank Technician

We are searching for a
Milk Bank Technician —someone to store, prepare and deliver a mother’s breast milk and/or pasteurized donor human milk to hospitalized infants. To provide assistance to mothers of hospitalized infants expressing milk for their infants in a manner appropriate and as necessary.

Knowledge of milk collection, storage, preparation, measurement, and sanitary techniques
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate, GED, or equivalent
6 months healthcare-related work experience
an associate degree or a bachelor's degree in nutrition or a Healthcare related field can substitute for 6 months experience
Preferred Qualifications
1 year nutrition or breastfeeding education experience
any knowledge or experience of Milk Preparation room or Milk Lab
Responsibilities
Accurately weighs, measures, and prepares mother’s own and/or pasteurized donor human milk for infant feeding per physician’s orders
Uses sanitary techniques according to established procedures to prepare and store mother’s own/pasteurized donor human milk for infant feeding
Documents and delivers properly labeled human milk feedings to appropriate patient care area
Maintain inventory log of mother’s own milk storage volume
Communicates with parents delivering milk to the Milk Bank regarding status of mother’s milk inventory and to ensure quality standards for transportation and storage of mother’s milk
Communicates with co-workers' status of mother’s milk inventory and location where milk is stored
Accurately documents the number of syringes/bottles, milk volumes and additives (when applicable) of human milk preparation on the daily Milk Bank Record
Provides active membership in hospital work teams/committees that require Milk Bank participation
Participates in the review/update of Milk Bank policies, procedures and workflows and provides feedback to departmental leadership
Participates in quality improvement activities per department and institutional programs
Coordinates Milk Bank technician schedule and assignments; adjusts workload of team as needed
