Job Description
Educational Assistant
The basic roles of educational assistants include implementation of teacher‑planned instruction, supporting individual student needs, behavioral and social support, supervision of students, and clerical and general duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises students in an orderly, consistent manner in their designated activity.
Assists teachers in gathering, assimilating and copying materials needed for their classroom.
Supervises cafeteria and playground during lunch and other times.
Assists on class field trips.
Implements plans created by a teacher or supervisor under the supervision of such a person.
Monitors and provides assistance to students during classroom activities.
Supports students using instructional modifications for lessons prepared by the teacher.
Assists the class teacher with scoring of student work and data collection /charting.
Checks for work completions and monitors data.
Reinforces skills taught previously.
Communicates with student team members about a student’s program.
Attends and/or contributes to collaborative student team meetings to receive information about a student’s progress or program as appropriate.
Prepares instructional materials, including student modifications.
Assists with individualized student plans in community learning settings.
Carries out instructional plans for individual students.
Assists with personal care, including feeding, toileting and hygiene support.
Assists students with unique motor or mobility needs.
Assists students with unique sensory needs.
Lifts and performs delegated medical needs.
Implements behavioral management plans developed by the teacher/team.
Communicates with team members about a student’s program and behaviors.
Observes, records and charts student’s behavioral responses.
Facilitates peer interactions.
Monitors student(s) at school-sponsored educational activities.
Performs clerical and general duties.
Assists teacher(s) with implementation of student(s) Individualized Education Plan (IEP) as directed.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read, write and comprehend simple directions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers or members of the school community. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to staff, students and administrators.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid certificate/license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
Other Skills and Abilities
Must possess basic skills in reading, writing and math for the purpose of inventory, record keeping, making necessary measurements, reading of gauges and instruments, mixing chemicals or other related items as applicable. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations that may arise. Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to use computers where applicable. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical Demands
Regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Frequently required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
