
Distribution Overhead Lineperson 1st Class

Position Purpose
Overhead 1st class is an experienced position in the construction and maintenance of electrical overhead distribution systems. You will work at multiple locations and may also require travel to another state, depending on customer demands.
Key Responsibilities
Lead crew members in the absence of the Foreman.
Set poles and anchors.
Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
Troubleshoot issues in primary and secondary systems.
Replace cutout fuses and clear faulted circuits and systems.
Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Perform rigorous physical labor.
Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
Be familiar with induced voltage.
Understand grounding procedures.
Work at heights or confined spaces.
Install and remove PPE and cover up.
Climb different types of structures (wood, steel) and have the necessary tools to do so.
Phase out a line using phasing sticks.
Plan safe work based on a job print or work order.
Obtain a one‑shot on a recloser.
Conduct a pre‑job or tailgate briefing.
Safely perform a reconductoring job.
Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers.
Use a load bust tool.
Complete all other related work to finish the job.
Work outside, frequently in inclement weather conditions.

While performing the responsibilities of this job you will talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle and feel, and reach with hands and arms. You may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, extreme conditions at construction sites, and loud noise. The work environment often requires outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Minimum 3‑5 years of recent field experience.

Lift more than 50 lbs.
Knowledge of inspecting rubber goods and PPE.

Preferred Qualifications
CDL license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
