Position Title

Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating earth moving equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Principal Accountabilities

Operate earth moving equipment in a safe and effective manner to minimize risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life; equipment may include, but is not limited to: motor grader, frontend loader, backhoe, excavator, vibratory roller, water truck, ditch witch trencher, or bobcat skidsteer/tracksteer
Inspect, clean, and perform operator level maintenance on equipment in accordance with standards
Interact with the customer for movement of materials and equipment
Perform daily safety checks to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition
Follow related safety regulations, contract requirements, company policies, and operating procedures
Ensure equipment is properly utilized, maintained, and stored
Complete necessary documentation, reporting, and limited office duties
Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of equipment safety, maintenance, and storage
Analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to understand equipment load charts and coordinate earth movement to standard of project
Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment

Experience & Education

Three (3) years’ of experience operating earth moving equipment
High School Diploma or equivalent
Equipment operator training and certificate from National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) or verifiable military or civilian equipment operator training from construction field preferred
Valid Driver’s License
Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds, bend, stoop, and work safely around equipment, materials, supplies, and other items to be handled
Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
