Behavior Specialist (PROFESSIONAL STAFF)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Missouri certification

Elementary teaching experience

Demonstrates effective leadership skills including human relations and communication skills

Experience planning and conducting professional development / training

Demonstrates leadership and project organizational skills (planning, implementing, evaluation)

Ability to work collaboratively with various groups and gain consensus related to project implementation and other problem solving

Experience in data-based decision making

Demonstrated oral and written communication skills

Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams, and groups (teachers, parents, administrators and support staff)

REPORTS TO:

Principal

JOB GOAL:

The Behavior Specialist will (a) lead the effort to build and maintain a strong, positive achievement-oriented school culture that nurtures, inspires, and empowers students to become successful adults with 21st century skills; (b) work closely with teachers, students, and parents to provide positive behavior supports and interventions; and (c) develop, enhance, and provide technical support for the implementation of a schoolwide PBIS framework. This position requires strong relationship- and team-building skills, ability to communicate clearly, strong organizational skills, ability to be flexible and meet deadlines, multi-tasking capability, and detail-oriented.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the implementation of a Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) framework

Work closely with principal, PBIS team, and staff to ensure consistent schoolwide implementation

Oversee implementation and provide professional development for evidence-based practices to improve school climate, Check In Check Out (CICO), social-emotional learning (SEL), restorative justice, and/or trauma-informed interventions

Track, review, and analyze student behavioral data including discipline referrals and suspensions to identify interventions for at-risk students

Implement school climate surveys (Panorama), PBS fidelity checks (EBS), and problem-solving checklists

Work closely with appointed school personnel on program evaluation activities

Provide direct coaching and counseling services to Tier II and Tier III students

Attend PBIS Team meetings and Building Leadership Team meetings

Participate in PBIS conferences and meetings

Train and provide ongoing technical and data analysis support to staff who use school-wide data collection systems (EduClimber).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.

The work environment is consistent with typical office/school environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board Of Education. Benefits according to Board policies.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Teacher Evaluation process.
