
Stagehand (per diem)

Purpose of Position
IATSE Local 2 Per Diem Stagehand position filling studio shifts for scheduled productions, vacation relief, special projects, daily and weekly coverage as needed.
Primary Accountabilities
Work directly with Directors, Producers, Talent, Maintenance Technicians and News staff to provide staging services during CBS/WBBM-TV local news productions for broadcast, social and streaming. Responsibilities include setting up and testing lighting and other television equipment, following Director’s instructions, assisting performers, guests, visitors and making adjustments to sets. Keeping the sets and stages clean between performances and removing any waste. Supporting company wide productions and events on and off site. Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
Unloading materials and equipment from trucks
Setting up lighting, props, microphones and other equipment
Testing equipment to ensure it is in working order before filming or a performance
Building and disassembling sets
Assisting technicians with the operation of lighting, sound and video equipment
Assisting performers and guests
Operating curtains and quickly moving scenery and props during theatrical productions
Running errands upon request
Core Competencies
Stage electric, stage carpentry, property persons, spotlight operators and lighting operation and maintenance as required and directed.
Knowledge of the basic parts of and operation techniques for lighting, sound and video equipment, including AR/VR environments preferred
Physical ability to move heavy equipment from one location to another
Problem‑solving ability to troubleshoot issues with equipment
Interpersonal skills to interact positively with cast members, crew members, vendors and audience
Ability to use tools needed to build and strike sets with ability to lift up to 75 lbs
Strong oral communication skills to work with other crew members
Ability to move quickly to change scenery and relocate props during scene changes
Understanding of on-set and stage safety precautions including work on lifts and ladders.
Shifts can include nights, weekends, early mornings and holidays.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Participation in Local 2 safety training and proven previous stage experience in live television and theatrical productions.
Additional Information
Hourly Pay Range: $36.03 - $36.03 per hour. The hiring range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington State, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
