Job Description
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following actions:
Meets and instructs the students in the designated locations and times;
Develops and maintains a conducive physical classroom environment within system resources;
Prepares for assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon supervisor request;
Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of behavior and provides an effective instruction program, including:
Instructional skills;
Knowledge of child growth and development;
Knowledge and use of materials and resources according to the adopted curriculum and physical limitations;
Demonstrates mastery of content area;
Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
Uphold school and county policies and procedures;
Maintain required records;
Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations;
Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes within contractual commitments;
Attend and participate in faculty and department meetings;
Cooperate with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods;
Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials;
Maintain open communication with students, parents, and colleagues about academic and behavioral progress;
Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships;
Perform related duties assigned by administration per school/system policies and practices.

Education and Experience
Candidates must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching certificate with endorsement in the applicable subject area.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts
Duties are performed in typical school settings such as classrooms, gym, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting (up to 40 pounds), and limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips, moving students by wheelchairs or mechanical devices, and regular instruction to special‑needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support, regular contact with staff and parents, occasional contact with medical professionals, and frequent phone/face‑to‑face contact with parents are required.
Evaluation
Performance is evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
Salary:
$56,082 to $77,791 per year (2025‑2026 scale).
Position Type:
Full‑time.
