Bethalto Community Unit School District #8 is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Elementary Behavior Technician to provide one-on-one and small-group behavioral, foundational developmental needs, and academic support for elementary students, including students with autism, ADHD, and other behavioral or social‑emotional needs. This position plays a vital role in promoting positive behavior, social skill development, and student success in the school setting.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one behavioral and academic support to assigned students in a variety of school settings, including classrooms, recess, and cafeteria environments.

Implement individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and behavior strategies under the direction of our behavior interventionist.

Support students in developing communication, social, emotional‑regulation, and functional skills.

Assist students with daily routines and transitions throughout the school day.

Collect and document behavioral data (including ABC and frequency data) to monitor student progress and inform intervention adjustments.

Observe and record student responses to interventions and report progress to appropriate staff.

Use de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies to safely manage challenging behaviors, including emotional outbursts or aggression, when necessary.

Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and related service staff to support student goals and classroom success.

Maintain a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and growth.

Communicate professionally and effectively with staff and, as directed, with families regarding student behavior and progress.

Attend required training, meetings, and professional development activities.

Uphold confidentiality and follow all district policies, ethical standards, and student privacy requirements.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience working with children, particularly students with behavioral challenges, autism, or ADHD, is strongly preferred.

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification preferred; candidates willing to complete required training and certification will be considered.

Valid Illinois Paraprofessional License or willingness to obtain prior to employment.

Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and practices is a plus.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.

Demonstrated patience, empathy, and ability to remain calm in high‑stress or challenging situations.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in data collection and documentation.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team.

Ability to adapt to changing student needs and manage multiple responsibilities throughout the school day.

Minimum Requirements for Paraprofessional License

Associate’s degree or higher

60 semester hours of coursework

High School Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro

High School Diploma or GED and the following scores on the ACT Workkeys:

Applied Mathematics/Applied Math (score of 4)

Reading for information/Workplace Documents (score of 4)
