Job Description
The Special Education Paraeducator will assist teachers and other professional practitioners by providing instructional support in self‑contained classrooms with students participating in special needs public programs (Alternative Education, Courthouse Academy, ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education), Gateway Academy, and Q.U.E.S.T) whose educational needs are not met by a general education environment.
Essential Job Functions
Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
Assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and healthy atmosphere, including social skill development, personal hygiene, and toilet training
Follow established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups
Maintain and organize students' instructional materials and/or cumulative files
Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary
Use special skills (e.g., sign language, transliterating, advanced computer training) to assist in two‑way communication between the teacher and the student as necessary
Perform additional non‑instructional duties, including cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee
Education and Experience
Required
High School Diploma or GED
A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional, educational, or related setting
Ability to successfully complete and maintain a Basic First Aid and CPR certification
Special Requirements
Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and receive additional training annually as appropriate.

$24,450 to $43,544 per year
Employment Terms
Employment may be offered as a 10‑Month (185 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day.
This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation is awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees.
