Two Technologist positions - Optical Approaches to Brain Function Research Unit
Contract: fixed-term, full-time. Duration: 1 year renewable up to 5 years.
Location: Center for Convergent Technologies.
Responsibilities: You will work in a multicultural, multi-disciplinary group where junior and senior scientists collaborate to achieve a shared research goal. The Optical Approaches to Brain Function Research Unit, coordinated by Tommaso Fellin, focuses on developing advanced optical methods to dissect the activity of brain circuits with enhanced spatiotemporal resolution. One position will concentrate on the development of large-scale two-photon fluorescence microscopy, holographic stimulation, two‑photon endoscopy, and miniaturized two‑photon microscopy in freely moving in vivo models. The second position will apply these advanced microscopy techniques to investigate hippocampal neuronal and non‑neuronal cell activity during spatial navigation in vivo.
Applicants for the first position should have a strong background in neurophotonics and applied optics. Ideal candidates for the second position should have solid experience in neurophysiology, circuit neuroscience, or behavioral neuroscience. Previous exposure to functional brain imaging and analysis of temporal series from microscopy experiments is desirable for both positions. Candidates must be highly independent, motivated, creative, and willing to interact with experimental and computational scientists in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
PhD in neuroscience, physics, bioengineering or a related discipline
Strong publication record
Good command of spoken and written English
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
Strong problem‑solving attitude
High motivation to learn
Spirit of innovation and creativity
Good time‑ and priority‑management skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary and multicultural environment
Accuracy and analytical skills
COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Annual gross salary between €35,000 and €48,000 (depending on experience) plus bonus option
Private health care coverage
Wide range of staff discounts
When applicable, a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years for candidates from abroad or Italian citizens with permanent scientific research activity abroad
We are committed to providing equal employment opportunities and fostering diversity in all its forms, creating an inclusive environment. We value the unique experiences, knowledge, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our people, believing that science can achieve its fullest potential through diversity.
