Overview
Camp David runs summer a specialty camp for children of prisoners and foster kids. The mission: “To bring the hope of Jesus to families of prisoners and to develop leaders who will impact our world.” The Staff Coach focuses on developing leaders. Immediate supervisor: Camp Director. Working hours: 7 weeks of the summer; approximately 12 hours per day with about 47 hours off on the weekends (the 12 hours per day includes breaks and 2 hours off during the afternoons for recharge).
Position Summary
Teach, mentor, empower, and bring accountability to the summer staff team. This position is a good fit for someone pursuing degrees in counseling, organizational communication, pastoral leadership, discipleship training, or being a Life Coach. You will gain experience in teaching, discipleship, goal setting, staff conflict, performance evaluations and write-ups when necessary, helping staff care for their emotions, and empowering them in making healthy choices. The position requires a listening ear, an ability to coach with relationships, and leading in spiritual growth and responsibility. The Staff Coach works closely with the Staff Manager to lead the staff that serve as Support Staff, and to assist the Media Manager and Program Director in managing staff. The Staff Coach is also responsible for maintaining the staff roster and making sure all the positions are filled each week (or recruiting until they are filled).
Responsibilities
General: Provide spiritual oversight and mentoring to the Support Staff, to the photographers, and any staff that are not counselors (not including grandparents). Focus is on the emotional and spiritual growth of the staff, and protecting and maintaining a trusting camp environment. This is similar to being a Youth Pastor for Camp David staff.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understanding, ability, and passion to fulfill the duties of the Staff Coach.
Strong understanding of the scriptures and listening to God’s leading.
Respect confidentiality and exercise good judgment.
Passionate commitment to Christ and the mission of the ministry.
Not a novice in the faith but spiritually mature, seeking the Lord’s will in every aspect of life.
Agree with the Camp David International’s Articles of Faith.
Active in a local church and have experience teaching from God’s word.
Experience leading teens and coaching; self-motivated with the ability to motivate and supervise others.
Be a learner and active in personal growth and development; adept at understanding others while promoting peace.
Acceptance for this position depends on successful completion of the Leadership Application, references reviewed, and a criminal background check.
Compensation
Staff Coach Compensation package: $450.00 per week and room & board. Time: Full-Time Seasonal. Salary: Paid. Category: Chaplain/Pastor.
