Grand Jury Reporter/Stenographer
Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York. Full‑time position located in New York City, offering a negotiated salary.

Responsibilities

Take confidential, verbatim testimony before a Grand Jury on a stenographic machine.

Transcribe CDs, videos, and tapes for Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs).

Read back testimony from notes for Grand Jury and/or court proceedings.

Recite back testimony from notes for Grand Jury.

Transcribe testimony in a timely manner using the Case Catalyst System for ADA and Judge reviews.

Keep accurate records and files of cases.

Use Case Catalyst System with personal dictionary to produce transcripts.

Take dictation at a rate of 175 words per minute on a stenographic machine.

Perform other duties as required.

Educational Requirements / Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED, or an Associate's Degree in Court Reporting from an institution accredited by the National Court Reporters Association.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

Take dictation at a rate of 175 words per minute.

Other Requirements

During the interview, demonstrate proficiency in taking two‑voice dictation on a stenotype machine at a rate of 175 words per minute and transcribing the same.

Authorization to work in the United States.

Work Hours
Generally Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM; occasional work outside those hours may be necessary depending on the Grand Jury schedule.
