Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Aquatic Technician to join our team and contribute to the maintenance and management of aquatic environments. As an Aquatic Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health, safety, and functionality of aquatic facilities, including ponds, lakes, pools, aquariums, and water features.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of aquatic facilities, including water quality testing, filtration system maintenance, and debris removal.

Monitor and maintain appropriate water chemistry levels, including pH, chlorine, and alkalinity, to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for aquatic life and human patrons.

Inspect and repair equipment and infrastructure related to aquatic systems, such as pumps, valves, heaters, and circulation systems, to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.

Completion and maintaining work orders up to date

Receive all required certifications/licenses within the time specified

Proficient with identifying aquatic plant and algae species common to the region/district

Adherence to safety SOPs with low or no safety incidents - no late reporting of incidents

Maintaining equipment and vehicles

Conduct regular inspections of aquatic habitats to assess the health and welfare of aquatic life, identify any signs of disease or stress, and implement appropriate corrective measures.

Coordinate and participate in the transportation, acclimation, and quarantine procedures for new aquatic arrivals, ensuring their smooth transition into their new environment.

Provide educational programs and presentations to staff, volunteers, and visitors on topics related to aquatic conservation, ecology, and responsible pet ownership.

Maintain accurate records of water quality data, equipment maintenance logs and animal health assessments in compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies.

Respond promptly to emergencies, such as water quality issues, equipment failures, or animal health crises, and implement appropriate protocols to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and animals.

Candidate Requirements
Education

High school diploma or GED

Degree in related science preferred

Experience

0-1 years’ experience preferred in an environmental related field

Skills & Competencies

Knowledge of aquatic biology, ecology, and water chemistry principles, with a focus on maintaining optimal environmental conditions for aquatic life.

Familiarity with aquatic equipment, including filtration systems, pumps, UV sterilizers, and water quality testing instruments.

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and water quality issues effectively.

Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and interact professionally with visitors, volunteers and colleagues.

Commitment to animal welfare and conservation principles, with a passion for educating others about the importance of protecting aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity.

Certification in CPR, first aid, and lifeguarding preferred.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to meet operational needs and respond to emergencies.

Must possess valid driver's license from state of residence

Base Pay Range
Hourly: $18.00 - $25.00

While starting pay falls within the given range, it can vary based on factors like geographic location, skills, education and experience. Total earnings may also be affected by overtime, incentives, commissions, performance, and route assignment (where applicable).
