Job Summary
Under the direction of the Rural Health Clinic Supervisor and/or Director the clinic receptionist is responsible for providing professional customer service, obtaining and verifying patient demographics and insurance information, and scheduling patient appointments efficiently in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Regular Contact with: All Rural Health personnel, Physicians, and the public.

Essential Job Functions
Serves as the primary point of contact for patients
Greets patients in a polite, prompt, helpful, and professional manner and provides any necessary instructions/directions
Answers, screens, and forwards incoming calls in a courteous and professional manner
Records messages and forwards to proper personnel. Provides basic and accurate information in-person and/or electronically (e.g., phone, email, etc.)
Schedules, coordinates, and reschedules patient appointments, as needed, including return/follow-up visits, consultations, and referrals
Maintains and updates scheduling information on provider schedules to ensure that patients are scheduled accurately
Works in conjunction with nurses and providers to accommodate scheduling requests
Compiles, processes, and maintains medical records of all clinic patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements
Reviews all patient forms for accuracy and completion according to office policies
Scans patient results, forms, information, etc. into the electronic system accurately in accordance with established clinic procedures
Accurately obtains and verifies patient health insurance information and ensures eligibility and proper billing
Collects and processes patient copays and deductibles accurately at the time of service in accordance with clinic policies
Follows opening and closing procedures according to clinic guidelines
Maintains a clean, organized, and sanitary front desk and waiting area to ensure a safe, professional, and welcoming environment for patients and staff
Monitors and maintains front office equipment to ensure proper functionality and promptly reports or resolves any issues
Floats to other Rural Health Clinics as needed
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience:
Desired, but not required. One year of experience in a medical office setting, medical insurance verification, and/or electronic medical records is preferred.

Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to read and write effectively
Ability to multitask and manage time effectively when completing several tasks at once
Strong organizational skills
Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information
Strong customer service skills
Familiar with medical terminology
Proficient with computers and ability to learn computer software
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time at a desk and working on a computer
Frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and order office equipment
Occasionally move about the office/facility to access file cabinets, office machinery, other departments, etc.
Frequently position self, such as bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, or twisting to maintain files, retrieve files or office supplies, etc.
Ability to communicate information accurately so others will understand
Ability to hear and respond to telephone calls, alarms, and normal office conversations
Visual acuity sufficient to read printed documents, computer screens, and handwritten materials
Frequently move, lift, push, or pull boxes, equipment, files, etc. weighing up to 20 pounds across the office for various needs.
Occasionally assist patients such as pushing, pulling, transferring, etc. up to 50 lbs.
OSHA Exposure Category A
Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
