How you will make an impact
The Mine Supervisor is responsible for executing short- and long-term mine plans to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective sand production. This role partners closely with plant operations, mine planning, geology, logistics, and commercial teams to ensure alignment between mine output and customer demand.
In addition to planning responsibilities, this role oversees contractor‑supported work, including large‑scale projects and site development activities, ensuring alignment with operational priorities, safety standards, and timelines.
Key Responsibilities
Mine Operations & Production Execution
Lead daily pit operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable sand production to support wet plant demand
Direct mining activities based on production priorities, material quality, and plant feed requirements
Coordinate pit sequencing, haul routes, and mining areas to maximize productivity and minimize downtime
Coordinate with mine planners to execute and maintain short-term (weekly/monthly) and long-term (quarterly/annual) mine plans to meet production targets and reserve strategies
Monitor production versus targets and make real-time adjustments to maintain output goals
Maintain safe pit conditions, haul roads, and access areas
Quality Control & Material Management
Take raw material samples in the pit and evaluate sand quality prior to processing
Identify clay seams, high organics, and high turbidity material zones
Communicate acceptable mining areas to mine planners and restrict unsuitable material from reaching the wet plant
Partner with plant leadership to maintain consistent feed quality, blending, and throughput performance
Contractor Management
Serve as the primary on-site liaison for contractor‑supported work
Direct contractor activities to align with production priorities and site schedules
Oversee construction and mine development projects
Monitor contractor productivity, quality of work, safety performance, and schedule adherence
Coordinate daily and weekly planning meetings between internal teams and contractors
Safety & Compliance
Champion a safety‑first culture across all mine and contractor activities
Ensure compliance with MSHA regulations and company safety standards
Participate in risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and pre‑task planning
Hold contractors and employees accountable to site safety expectations
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with plant operations to ensure consistent raw feed supply
Coordinate with contractors regarding equipment readiness and availability
Partner with geology and operations leadership on pit development and resource utilization
Support logistics and commercial teams to align production with customer demand and shipping schedules
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across mine operations
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in mining, aggregates, sand operations, excavation, or heavy industrial environments
Previous supervisory experience leading crews, contractors, or field operations
Experience managing contractor‑supported projects in an industrial or mining environment
Strong understanding of production targets, equipment utilization, and cost control
Ability to work outdoors in an active mining environment
Strong communication, leadership, and decision‑making skills
Preferred
Experience in sand mining or proppant operations
Experience working with Turner Construction or similar large contractors
Familiarity with wet plant operations and raw material quality requirements
Experience supporting capital projects or site development
Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MinePlan 3D, or other surveying/modeling/mapping software
Knowledge of MSHA regulations
Strong operational mindset with the ability to translate priorities into field execution
Ability to lead contractors and internal teams without direct authority
High attention to detail with strong problem‑solving skills
Clear communicator who can align multiple stakeholders quickly
Bias for action with the ability to adjust priorities in a dynamic environment
Hands‑on leader willing to be present in the pit and actively support operations
Travel Requirements
Travel to Austin as applicable for software training and overlap with the geo team, once per quarter or less unless necessary for training
Travel as needed to other sites (Monahans, OnCore) to support mining operations
Physical Requirements
Capable of lifting 50 lbs
Hand dexterity and fine motor skills required to grasp and carry
Reach with hands and arms
Talk and hear
Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, sit, climb, and balance on unstable surfaces
