Position Summary
The CS4MS Teacher Assistant supports the implementation of the Computer Science for Mississippi (CS4MS) initiative by assisting in the delivery of standards-aligned computer science instruction for students in grades K–4. This position works collaboratively with classroom teachers and school leadership to promote computational thinking, digital literacy, and problem-solving skills while ensuring a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.

Job Goal
To support the development of foundational computer science skills in all students by assisting in the delivery of high-quality instruction that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and digital literacy.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist in delivering standards-aligned computer science instruction for K–4 students

Support teaching of core concepts, including computational thinking, coding/programming, digital citizenship, and problem-solving

Assist in the development and implementation of engaging lessons aligned to Mississippi Computer Science standards

Support integration of computer science across content areas (STEM integration)

Implement CS4MS curriculum and utilize approved instructional platforms such as Code.org and Scratch

Student Learning & Assessment

Assist in monitoring and assessing student progress using formative and summative methods

Support differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners

Reinforce student mastery of computer science concepts and skills

Maintain accurate records, including attendance, grades, and progress monitoring data

Help establish and maintain a safe, engaging, and collaborative classroom environment

Reinforce expectations for student behavior and responsible digital citizenship

Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving

Program Implementation & Student Engagement

Support school-wide implementation of computer science initiatives

Assist with technology-based projects, coding activities, and student showcases

Support district technology and innovation initiatives

Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate computer science into core instruction

Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and team meetings

Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents as directed

Professional Responsibilities

Participate in required meetings, CS4MS training, and professional development

Stay current with trends and best practices in computer science education

Perform other duties as assigned by the principal

Qualifications
Required

High school diploma or equivalent

Meets Mississippi paraprofessional requirements (e.g., 2 years of college credit, associate degree, or passing score on an approved assessment)

Ability to work effectively with students and staff

Preferred

Experience working with elementary students

Basic knowledge of computer science concepts or instructional technology

Familiarity with platforms such as Code.org or Scratch

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to support instruction and manage small groups of students

Basic technology skills and willingness to learn new platforms

Organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Working Conditions

Classroom and/or computer lab setting

Frequent use of technology and digital tools

May include occasional after-school events or family engagement activities
