2026-2027 Teacher, Special Education – Elementary FOCUS (Life Skills)

Job Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas Teacher's Certificate (Core Subjects or Generalist) and Special Education EC-12
Alternative Certification Program applicants must have passed content exam(s) to be eligible for employment
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
Responsibilities
Provide students with appropriate learning activities, structure, and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth
Prepare lessons that reflect strategies designed specifically for the academic, social and behavioral needs of students
Work cooperatively with general education teachers to adjust behavioral approaches as needed for students to access the curriculum
Provide direct instruction to support self-discipline and transition to the general education classroom with support from the FOCUS teacher or paraprofessional
Maintain open communication with campus administrators and district special programs staff
Other duties required by campus/district supervisors reflective of district policies and procedures
Salary
$63,000 for beginning teacher with "0" years experience (Based on 2025-2026 Compensation Plan)
$1,000 Master's Degree addenda
Additional $1,000 Doctorate Degree addenda
$3,150 Stipend - FOCUS Teacher
Pay Grade:
Certified Instructional, 10 Duty Months
Benefits
The District contributes $400/month to the cost of employee-only health insurance, which is $175/month greater than the state required amount of $225/month.
Mental/Physical Demands and Environmental Factors
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking
Lifting: Frequent light lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling (less than 15 pounds); occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (up to 50 pounds)
Environment: Work inside and outside, regular exposure to noise and the elements
Mental Demands: Maintain control under stress
