Since 1989, the San Antonio Education Partnership has been on a mission to create college opportunities, access, and success for our community. The goal of SAEP is to close the college attainment gap for San Antonio by supporting youth and adults to enroll in college and earn a college degree and/or certificate.
The Role
The Development Manager is a key leadership role responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy. This position focuses on diversifying revenue streams through grant management, high-impact special events, intentional donor solicitation, along with stewardship to ensure long‑term sustainability of SAEP’s programs.
Primary Responsibilities
Grant Writing & Management:
Research draft, and submit highly competitive grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government entities. Manage the full grant lifecycle, including tracking deadlines, reporting requirements, and ensuring compliance with funder intent.
Donor Solicitation & Recruitment:
Proactively identify, solicit, and recruit new private donors, including foundations and high‑net‑worth individuals, who are committed to the mission of SAEP.
Communications & Stewardship:
Work with the marketing team to develop compelling and consistent messaging for appeals and stewardship materials across a variety of platforms to ensure brand alignment and donor engagement. Develop and implement a donor recognition program to increase retention and lifetime value. Maintain the donor database, ensuring accurate records of gifts and meaningful touchpoints with supporters.
Special Event Management:
Lead the planning, execution, and post‑event analysis of major fundraising events and community celebrations. Coordinate with vendors, sponsors, and volunteers to ensure events meet financial targets and brand standards.
Strategic Growth:
Collaborate with executive leadership to identify new funding opportunities and community partnerships in the San Antonio area. Help to design, launch and execute fundraising campaigns to meet organizational growth goals.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree (4-year) from an accredited institution required.
Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or a closely related field.
Reliable personal transportation; valid driver’s license and current auto insurance in employee's name required.
Skills
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Proven track record in successful grant writing and event logistics.
Proficiency in donor management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Key Performance Metrics
Grant Success Rate: Percentage of awarded vs. submitted proposals and total grant revenue generated.
Event ROI: Net profit and donor acquisition numbers from signature events.
Donor Retention: Year‑over‑year percentage of recurring donors and successful "upgrades" in giving tiers.
Reporting Accuracy: 100% compliance with grant reporting deadlines and financial documentation.
