This Laboratory Supervisor role is specific to the Anatomic Pathology Department. The supervisor will provide direct oversight of anatomic pathology operations, workflows, and staff.

Responsibilities

Provide direct oversight of anatomic pathology operations, workflows, and staff; function independent and collaboratively with laboratory leadership in supervising staff—including hiring, termination, performance reviews, coaching, corrective action, and development of performance improvement plans.

Provide site operation oversight; implement LEAN workflow principles in laboratory processes when possible; implement best practices across all aspects of laboratory operations.

May perform a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, act as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results; may be responsible for instrument correlation and method validation; correlate data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results.

Participate in laboratory quality assurance programs and performance improvement activities.

Assist with staff and student training, orientation of new employees; review and update procedures; provide direction and problem‑solving skills for laboratory functions; implement standardization efforts.

Position is exempt; 2‑year commitment required.

Not eligible for sponsorship; Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F1 STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications

Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science, or a health/health sciences related field.

Four years of experience actively working in a moderate or high‑complexity clinical laboratory.

Current certification as a Histotechnologist (HT or HTL).

Ability to communicate in English, verbally and in writing; knowledge of quality assurance principles and practices.

Effective in a diverse work group; ability to work independently; exercise independent judgment and rendering decisions.

Prioritization and problem‑solving skills; critical thinking required.

Computer skills required; excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge of relevant factors influencing testing results; ability to work under stress.

Working knowledge of laboratory information and reporting systems; regulatory/CLIA standards; operational troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and assays.

Manual dexterity; willingness to work at multiple locations.

Maintain regular attendance and competency in laboratory testing and procedures.

Compensation
$82,908 - $124,467 annually, based on education, experience and tenure.
