Job Description Summary
Provides professional nursing care within an assigned set of one or more of the following units:

Med/Surg (3 West, 4 West, Rehab, 2 East- adults only, Her Place - non OB patients only, Rose Center - 2nd RN only, and any adult medical/surgical overflow area)

Critical Care (ED, ICU, CCU, PCU, and any critical care overflow area)

Mother/Baby (Pediatrics, Nursery, Her Place)

Surgical Services (Surgery, PACU, Same Day, Endo)

Work Environment
Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements including accidents, injuries and illnesses. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Must be able to handle emergency or crisis situations. May perform emergency care. May work irregular hours and occasional exposure to radiation.

Essential Functions

Documents initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions, and develops individual care plans for patients assigned to the unit taking into consideration their physical, psycho‑social, environmental and spiritual needs.

Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care according to established policies and procedures.

Evaluates outcomes of patient care, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as necessary to obtain optimal patient care.

Coordinates discharge planning.

Maintains appropriate patient documentation, records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patients' medical treatment. Maintains confidentiality.

Using the interdisciplinary approach formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning including family teaching as appropriate.

Arranges for patients ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.

Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as assigned by the director of nursing, charge nurse and medical staff.

Physical Requirements
Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. You must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, talk, hear and smell. You must be able to lift or exert energy up to 50 pounds 25% of the time, 100 pounds 50% of the time and more than 100 pounds 25% of the time.

Mental Requirements
Must possess the ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures or regulations; write reports, correspondence and/or manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees, and medical staff; perform complex math functions including calculating percentages, averages, volumes, ratios and interpreting graphs; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; deal with concrete and abstract concepts and interpret verbal, nonverbal and written instructions.

Age Groups
This position primarily interacts with all age groups and provides direct patient care. All staff members must demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.

Current RN license in the state of South Carolina or compact state.

2 years RN experience.

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

ACLS certification required for work in critical care areas (within six months from date of hire).

PALS certification required for work in critical care and mother/baby areas.
