Summary:
The Physical Therapist provides specialized services to support the physical development and mobility needs of students (ages 3‑22) in educational settings. The therapist evaluates motor skills, designs individualized therapy plans, and works closely with families, teachers, and other professionals to ensure students can access and participate in early learning environments.
Qualifications:
Hold an appropriate license from the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Allied Health Professionals as a Physical Therapist.
Preferred Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy.
Experience delivering physical therapy services in a public school setting.
Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by coursework, educational experience, school-level involvement, and/or system-wide professional activities, and by interview.
Responsibilities:
Evaluate and assess students referred for special education eligibility determination.
Develop and implement effective programs of intervention for Special Education students.
Develop IEP goals, benchmarks, and assessment methods to monitor a student’s progress in the identified educational area requiring intervention.
Work collaboratively with building liaisons, principals, and teachers to determine eligibility, need for level, and/or continuation of physical therapy service.
Carefully monitor student progress toward achievement of goals, and effectively communicate to the team the termination of services where appropriate.
Develop programs for efficiently delivering physical therapy services and managing available resources.
Keep thorough and confidential records for the individual students receiving physical therapy.
Consult with parents, classroom teachers, and other staff as needed.
Participate in team meetings where students have been recommended for or are currently receiving physical therapy services.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.
