Job Description
Primarily responsible for receiving and accessioning specimens, managing specimen documentation, and entering requisition data. Also maintains a clean and orderly lab environment. The Specimen Processor I understands sample integrity issues and serves as a resource for others in the lab. This role requires flexibility with work schedules, including daily assignments, holidays, and days of the week, as dictated by business needs. 3-6 month contract. $28-30/hr
Responsibilities
Accession and verify clinical specimens; enter data into LIS
Label, track, and manage specimen documentation and related clerical tasks
Identify and
specimen processing issues; document corrective actions
Follow lab policies, procedures, and test-order compliance regulations
Support lab safety, training, and competency assessments
Participate in meetings, regulatory activities, and continuous improvement projects
Assist with research/validation and routine room/equipment maintenance
Track, stock, and organize laboratory supplies; perform general lab clean-up
Collaborate with lab staff and Customer Care on specimen and accessioning issues
Handle related administrative tasks (printing, copying, filing, faxing, spreadsheet QC)
Required Skills
0–2 years of accessioning or lab experience
High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficient with LIS and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint)
Good judgment and problem-solving skills
Excellent teamwork and collaboration; able to work independently
