Position Overview
MGC Contractors, Inc. is seeking a licensed crane operator to join our Texas Division in the San Antonio/New Braunfels area. The crane operator will safely operate rough terrain hydraulic cranes to transfer heavy objects from one location to another.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Operate RT hydraulic cranes.
Set up machinery based on complex manuals. Calculate load capacity and determine weight of loads in relation to the manufacturer’s load chart specifications for construction jobsites and facilities.
Inspect the crane daily for defects, wear and maintenance. Report deficiencies promptly to supervisor.
Inspect and assess ground conditions to ensure the crane is set up safely.
Inspect clearances, overhead lines and other objects to prevent accidents or damages.
Hoist, position, and place machinery, equipment or other large objects at construction sites and industrial facilities.
Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
Coordinate with ground crew and other operators to interpret signal‑hand, verbal and radio communications.
Maintain activity logs and records of service.
Inspect rigging and remove damaged equipment from service.
Wear required PPE at all times.
Be willing to travel as work dictates.
Perform any other duties assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position operates at professional construction sites, requiring the ability to communicate verbally, read printed materials, handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds, climb stairs or ladders, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, and position oneself on uneven surfaces. It requires working outdoors for long periods in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Exposure to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris may occur.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
Full‑time
position. Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
required.
NCCCO certification or equivalent
required.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience operating RT mobile cranes.
Rigging expertise.
Experience working around plant construction jobsites.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations and ANSI standards in crane operations.
Proficiency in oral and written communication.
