Coast Electric is accepting internal and external applications for the position of
System Operator . The System Operator monitors and controls the electric distribution system for the Control Center to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This position is responsible for responding to outages, coordinating field personnel, and managing system controls through SCADA and related technologies. This role requires rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Job Responsibilities
Monitor and operate electrical distribution systems using SCADA and related systems
Respond to outages and system abnormalities by dispatching appropriate personnel
Perform switching procedures, including lockout / tagout and hotline tag protocols
Coordinate system operations during maintenance, emergencies, and storm restoration
Receive, document, and relay internal and external communications regarding outages and service requests
Generate, process, and manage work orders and outage tickets
Maintain logs, reports, and operational documentation
Verify system performance and support outage management, GIS, CIS systems
Provide member service support related to service orders and restoration efforts
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Valid Mississippi driver's license, required
Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Must be available for call-back work as needed
Strong decision making, multitasking, problem-solving, and effective verbal communication
Effective verbal communication skills (telephone and radio)
Ability to interpret technical documents, maps, and system data
Demonstrated commitment to safety policies and procedures
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in electrical utility operations or control center environment
Knowledge of electrical distribution systems
Experience with SCADA, outage management systems, or GIS
Working Conditions and Physical Characteristics
Work is primarily performed in a control center environment. Ability to remain alert and focused on extended 12-hour shifts. Occasional field visits may be required. Ability to sit for extended periods and use computer systems continuously. Must be able to communicate effectively and observe details at close range.
