Job Description
The Technician 1, Low Voltage is responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and maintaining voice, data, and fiber optic cabling systems for commercial and industrial projects. This role requires reading blueprints, ensuring compliance with safety and code standards, troubleshooting technical issues, and supporting high-quality, on-time installations. The technician will work in diverse environments and collaborate with field teams to deliver reliable, structured cabling solutions while maintaining excellent customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Planning & Execution:
Inspect work areas and complete Job Hazard Analysis prior to starting work to ensure a safe jobsite and compliance with company safety standards
Review and plan daily tasks, scheduling, equipment, tools, and material needs to maintain project efficiency and quality
Analyze blueprints and prepare for upcoming tasks by anticipating equipment, procedures, and training needs
Complete pos-installation documentation, timesheets, materials reconciliation, and daily logs
Installation & Technical Work:
Run new cabling and conduit in new or existing buildings
Terminate and test fiber optic cabling, new and existing cabling, voice and data jacks, and data cables
Build and mount rack equipment such as ladder racks and cable trays
Troubleshoot technical issues and hardware components at various locations to ensure system functionality and performance
Maintain structured cabling systems and assist in deploying, splicing, and testing fiber optic cable
Operate necessary vehicles, tools, and equipment as required by job specifications
Professional Knowledge, Quality, & Communication
Stay current on low-voltage cabling codes, color codes, industry standards, and testing procedures
Communicate professionally with customers, team members, permitting authorities, and vendors
Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, initiative, and creativity in fieldwork
Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination
Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bringing it to their attention.
Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Support goal of achieving zero accidents.
Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed.
Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
5 years experience in structured cabling is strongly preferred
BICSI Certification preferred
EXPERIENCE, SKILL AND ABILITIES
Positive safety attitude and personal integrity -- both are non-negotiable
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams)
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Self-starter with willingness to take on difficult cabling jobs
Solid attention to detail with good follow-through
Ability to read and understand floor plans
Ability to work in team environment with demonstrated positive attitude
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Perform work while standing, climbing ladders, crawling, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs., both indoors and outdoors
Work in environments involving moving machinery, temperature fluctuations, dust, fumes, and confined spaces
