Quality Manager

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of quality, product safety, and compliance at Skybox Packaging. This role ensures that all products consistently meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and certification standards, while also driving continuous improvement across the organization.

This leader owns the site’s quality management system and product safety program, including BRCGS certification, SFI/FSC certification, audit readiness, and risk management. They are accountable for maintaining robust processes in areas such as GMPs, traceability, supplier quality, and corrective action systems, ensuring the facility operates in a constant state of compliance and readiness.

In addition to compliance, this role serves as a key driver of operational quality performance—partnering closely with Production, Maintenance, Scheduling, Logistics, and Customer Service to improve product consistency, reduce defects, and enhance the overall customer experience. The position leads all customer quality interactions, ensuring timely response, root cause analysis, and sustainable corrective actions.

Success in this role requires a balance of strong technical knowledge, leadership, and influence. The Quality Manager builds a culture where quality and product safety are understood and owned by every employee—coaching teams, strengthening accountability, and connecting daily actions on the plant floor to customer satisfaction and business performance.

Description

Owner of the Quality Management System, BRCGS Program, and Customer Compliance.

Build strong working relationships with people in the business and with our customers.

Train and coach all team members on quality standards, non-conformance recognition, and how their role impacts quality and customer experience.

Facilitator of standard work procedures and internal/industry wide quality standards.

Lead plant-wide quality improvement initiatives using Lean methodologies and Six Sigma principles.

Inspire compliance through training, internal audits, and floor engagement.

Partner with leadership to align improvement efforts with business goals. Identify and eliminate sources of waste, variation, and rework.

Maintain and continuously improve the Quality Manual and Standard Operating Procedures. Ensure documentation reflects current practices and customer requirements.

Work with the Quality Assistant to manage all customer quality inquiries, complaints, and corrective actions. Ensure timely response and closure to all customer quality concerns.

Conduct root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methods such as 5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC.
Work with the Production and Sales teams to drive reductions in customer complaints, credits, and returns.

Lead and maintain the BRCGS Packaging Materials Certification.

Own the internal audit program and external audit preparation and execution. Always audit ready.

Oversee and develop all prerequisite programs to meet BRCGS requirements, including but not limited to: HACCP Plan, GMP’s, Pest Management, Internal Audit Program, Supplier Assessments, Product Recall, Traceability, and Document Control.

Ensure full traceability of product by leading mock recalls and validating system effectiveness. Maintain readiness to execute a recall within required timeframes.

Oversee supplier qualifications and assessments to ensure they follow BRCGS, SFI, and FSC requirements.

Maintain regulatory compliance and customer specific requirements. Understand REACH, RoHS, Prop 65.

Create and lead an evolving/living quality system that is centered on people

Maintain current knowledge of industry quality requirements

Maintain current knowledge of tools, equipment and systems which can improve our quality and consistency.

Collaborate with department and shift leaders to set goals and establish tactical plans for improvement

Actively participate as a member of the Plant Leadership Team. Contribute perspective and experience to discussions, present support or dissent with clarity and champion important projects as needed.

Conduct annual Management Review Meetings as part of the BRCGS Program.

Improve process in area of responsibility and is free to make process changes on an ongoing basis. Any process changes that involve significant time, effort, investment, or impact on other processes should be discussed and approved by the Management Team and others impacted by the process.

Any other tasks which may be assigned by the Operations Manager.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or job experience with a demonstrated track record

Operating experience in a BRCGS, SQF, or FSSC certified environment is a requirement.

Experience Leading a product safety program under the GFSI umbrella.

Six Sigma / Lean Certification is a plus.

5+ Years’ experience in similar role

Experience in a Manufacturing environment with 100+ employees.

Ability and willingness to travel occasionally in the US and Canada
