Summary:
Materials Manager
ensures that the production facility has a steady, cost‑efficient supply of materials required to maintain uninterrupted production. This role acts as a bridge between procurement, production, and warehouse teams to align material availability with production schedules.
Your Mission:
Use historical data, sales trends, and market forecasts to predict future raw material requirements
Generate purchase orders, track deliveries, and coordinate with suppliers to ensure materials meet quality specifications and arrive on time
Utilize ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) to manage inventory data and scheduling parameters
Liaison with external vendors to negotiate contracts, resolve order discrepancies, and manage supply disruptions
Work closely with scheduler and operations managers to adjust material plans based on schedule changes, cancellations, or new priorities
Responsible for raw material inventory accuracy
Backup corporate buyer during absences and vacations
Maintain optimum inventory levels to ensure on‑time deliveries to meet customer requirements
Responsible for evaluating suppliers on the basis of delivery, products and service
Establish procedures and supervise the annual physical inventory
Supervise, evaluate and coach staff members when needed
Work with Service and Production on the planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipments
Maintain relationships and negotiate with suppliers when needed
Purchase supplies and materials according to specifications and customer demands
Ensure that the company’s standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all materials department functions
Maintain a positive working environment among employees
Participate in monthly update/review meetings
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to self‑direct activities, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a changing environment with strong problem‑solving skills
Results driven, effective decision maker
Coach, guide, and develop direct reports, create meaningful feedback discussions that support and enhance employee success
Provide direct supervision and drive accountability
Drive performance of staff through finding motivation factors, creating inspiration for your team, and providing resources to help them be successful
Drive regular communication with your team to create organizational awareness and transparency
Be an example for your team
Your Profile:
At least 5 years manufacturing or related experience
A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or equivalent and applicable work‑related experience
Strong communication and negotiation skills required
Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management
Proficiency with MRP/ERP systems
Working knowledge of SAP
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles or JIT (Just‑in‑Time) inventory practices
Technical training preferred
Industrial safety training preferred
Willingness to work flexible schedules
