Under supervision, the incumbent will work as a Cognitive Dynamics Staff Research Coordinator supporting the clinical research efforts for the Cognitive Dynamics Laboratory within the Department of Psychiatry. Incumbent effort will specifically be targeted on research studies involving subjects with serious mental illnesses (e.g., mood or psychotic disorders) and use of digital health strategies to improve cognitive function. Duties and responsibilities include updating and maintaining several databases; recruitment and screening of potential subjects; administration of structured clinical interviews; conducting cognitive and diagnostic assessments, as well as sensor and related data collection modalities using mobile technology; preparing summaries for institutional review board and funding agency progress reports; recruiting and training research assistant student interns on study procedures; and coordination with linked study sites. Perform other project and miscellaneous duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Theoretical knowledge of psychiatry, psychology, or related field, as typically attained by a Bachelor’s degree and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong computer skills (word‑processing, databases, SPSS) and ability to maintain and update databases for several projects and ongoing research; proven ability to enter, update, and verify subject and experimental data, and use statistical software to process data.

Proven knowledge of psychiatric diagnostic criteria.

Demonstrated experience in maintaining and updating databases for several projects and the ability to create new databases for ongoing research.

Demonstrated ability to schedule subjects for initial interview and behavioral assessment sessions, and understanding of behavioral assessment process.

Proven effective interpersonal skill and oral/written communication skill, including the ability to administer research protocols and keep accurate and detailed records.

Proven ability to organize and prioritize workload.

Proven ability to administer clinical symptom surveys, screening interviews, and structured diagnosed psychiatric interviews.

Must be able to maintain confidentially.

Demonstrated experience training and overseeing volunteer research assistants in administering research protocols to study participants.

Demonstrated experience disbursing, reconciling, and ordering UCSD scrip and petty cash.

Demonstrated experience in administering questionnaires, behavioral assessments, and computer tasks.

Demonstrated ability to organize and track progress reports and enrollment data for data submissions.

Proven flexibility to accommodate participants’ schedules and ability to meet participants in public places (i.e., community clubhouses or libraries) off‑site for study visits and assessments.

Proven experience in REDCap to create new data storage system for all lab studies and ability to hold training for the system.

Demonstrated understanding of therapeutic treatment approaches and skills.

Demonstrated experience that meet the needs of subjects with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder who often share suicidal thoughts and/or have diminished cognitive functioning (i.e., De‑escalation, Safety Planning, modifying protocols, etc.).

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Must have access to reliable transportation for research subject recruitment in multiple sites.

Must be able to work overtime, evenings, and weekends, as needed.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $65,208 - $104,901 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.23 - $50.24

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
