HX5, in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center, is seeking a Modeling Engineer to support NASA’s Electrical Engineering department to augment the Power and Energy Storage Technologies for Mars team. The candidate will be responsible for developing stack level models for solid oxide fuel cell systems in MATLAB and Simulink. These models will be validated against data produced by testing two solid oxide systems at JSC.
Required Skills
Background in static and dynamic chemical or solid oxide fuel cell stack modeling.
The ability to implement equations for chemical reactions, energy balance, and static/dynamic system responses in solid oxide fuel cell stack models.
Experience with solid oxide fuel cell power systems utilizing O2, H2, CO, CO2, and CH4. Strong technical writing skills and MATLAB programming.
Other Desired Skills
Familiarity with fuel cell and/or electrolysis hardware at both the stack and system levels preferred.
Experience with generating standalone MATLAB executables. Experience integrating/generating MATLAB models into Simulink.
Education and Experience
Must have an engineering degree in Systems, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited program, with one of the following combinations of education and experience:
Ph.D. with zero (0) to four (4) years of experience;
Master's degree and four (4) to eight (8) years of experience;
Bachelor's degree and eight (8) to fourteen (14) years of experience.
Other Position Requirements
Must be a US Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance for the position.
