Leidos has a job opening beginning in the Spring/Summer of 2026 for a Mechanical Engineer Intern/Co‑Op in Reston, VA. Work will consist of a range of project tasks to include 3D modeling, simulation, visualization and integration of commercial off‑the‑shelf products.
Primary Responsibilities
Receive assignments in the form of objectives and establish goals to meet outlined objectives.
Create 3D models of various facilities, equipment, systems and sub‑systems using CAD applications such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks and other applications.
Basic Qualifications
Current enrollment in an accredited college or university, pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a directly related field.
Student must be willing/able to take a semester off to work through the Fall (June‑December) semester.
Minimum 3.0 GPA.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph Security clearance.
US Citizenship required.
Willing and able to relocate to Reston, Virginia, if needed.
Ability to create detailed technical drawings and 3D models using specialized software to visualize and design complex engineering projects.
Ability to define detailed requirements and criteria that a product or system must meet to fulfill its intended purpose and satisfy stakeholder expectations.
Experience in specifying the size, shape, and location of features on engineering drawings using standardized symbols and annotations.
Knowledge of conceptualizing and developing new items or improving existing ones, considering factors such as user needs, market trends, and manufacturing feasibility.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience utilizing SolidWorks software for 3D modeling, simulation, and documentation in mechanical design and engineering projects.
Experience developing preliminary versions of products or systems to explore ideas, test functionality, and gather user feedback.
Experience programming in C++, Java and Python.
Pay Range
$48,100.00 – $86,950.00. The Pay Range is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and other considerations.
